What is your question?
Oil, not transmission fluid, just started leaking from the torque converter case cover plate. Does anyone know what causes that and what the solution is?

Yes, if the oil is in fact coming from inside the bell housing (where the engine and transmission are housed), and you are sure it is motor oil, then it is probably your rear main seal. Also known as a rear crankshaft seal, this seal blocks out oil from escaping the engine where the crankshaft must protrude into the transmission. Be absolutely sure you know the oil is coming from the rear main seal, because the repair involves either removing the engine, or the transmission from the vehicle, sometimes you can get lucky and slide the tranny back a bit without fully removing it but this is still a lot of work. Also, be absolutely sure this is not transmission fluid, because the two can begin to look like each other especially if the transmission fluid is older.

I was sure it was engine oil and that was my best guess (rear main) after getting to know the car better because I had recently bought it. I couldn't get the car up high enough to get my head where I could see it better. As it turned out, I had the dealer check the leak when I had the timing belt, water pump and seals replaced ( 143k ). It turned out to be the seal on the oil pan ( there is no gasket ) . But your diagnosis is 100% accurate ( thank you) if in reality the engine oil was coming from that access plate. Dummy me couldn't see the source ( sure looked like the access plate from the view I had!! ) Thanx again
