if this is a written message that says "battery", it is likely pertaining to the battery in your key fob, not the engine's battery.
If it is a red battery light that has illuminated in the instrumentation, then it pertains to the charging system of the vehicle.
No warning light will ever come on to prompt you to replace the engine 12 volt battery.
