I have a gas leak coming from under the SUV behind the engine.

the leak is behind the engine near the transmission. Its running down this black cylindrical object. Any ideas as to where its coming from or where i should start my search before i drop the gas tank??

IF you don't know what the 'black cylindrical object' is , it might be safest and least costly to tow the vehicle and have it checked by an experienced tech? Maybe it's the vapor canister? Is the 'check engine' light on? Just a thought ....
