How much will cost to do the timing chain extensior?

(2007 Audi A4 Quattro)
My Audi just started making the tapping sound from the bottom of the motor and an Audi mechanic told me it is the timing chain extensior. How much will it cost for me?

Hello,
The link below is to our estimator tool, and you can see the price for the entire timing belt replacement job in your are is around 500-850 dollars. That being said, the timing chain tensioners are buried behind the timing cover, so you will want to do the timing belt at the same time. I have a vehicle with the 2.0T engine, and the timing belt wears out around every 60,000 miles, so I change it any time I access it.
Also, the water pump is housed behind the timing cover, and that should be changed at the same time. You can see real estimates for both the water pump and timing belt job from certified shops in your area in the link below.

I just did the timing belt and water pump. I am just asking for the timing chain tensioner. Can you give me an estimate for replacing just the tensioner? I know that the parts will cost $200 because it will need the valve cover gasket, Timing chan and timing chain tensioner. How much do you charge me for the labor?

Which engine do you have? I can only imagine it is the 2.0 turbo 4cyl, and that the timing chain tensioner you are referring to is the cam timing chain that runs behind cylinder 4, not the main timing belt that runs the water pump.
If that is correct, the book calls for about 3 hours, but some shops using different books will vary.
My advice is to look at the certified shops in your area, and pick the one who specializes in German/foreign/VW/Porsche/Audi. They will have the proper tool to remove the camshaft adjuster, and all the bolts that have to be replaced in house.
