how many quarts of oil and what type of oil for the sl55 amp

Hello, Mercedes recommends Mobile 1 synthetic oil or their own blend. There is a European formula that I use in nearly all Mercedes, VW/Audi gasoline engines. When you drop by the auto parts store, ask them for the capacity, they have it all there, and you'll need to ask for the proper filter anyways.

8.5 Liters (8.98 Quarts) with filter change.Note: On models with oil cooler additional oil may be needed when/if the cooler is drained. Refer to your owners manual,under specifications/capacities.
