Having the thermostat replaced for the second time in 2 years! Check engine light came on, code came back for the thermostat, took it to the Chevy Dealership to be replaced. Within 6 months of replacing the thermostat the first time, the light came back on & again, it was the thermostat. Still under part warranty, they "reset" or "repaired" it, now here I am again about a year later, out of any warranty having to pay nearly $400 to replace the thermostat AGAIN! This is sketchy!! The truck has never run hot, all the gauges read fine. Having some knowledge of vehicles, I do know that it is not common to have to replace a thermostat every couple of years. Is something shorting it out?!?!
This vehicle has a thermostat that fails in the open position which causes the temp gauge to drop below normal and heater to fail. The thermostat is located on the driver's side of the engine behind the alternator. You might need to remove the wheel to access the mounting bolts. You will need multiple rachet extensions and some patience. Dealer wants $500 to replace thermostat. Do it yourself for less than $100.
Replaced thermostat twice, dealer said it needed to be changed again or maybe it's just a bad sensor :-(
service engine light came on. was told it could need engine coolant or was the thermostat. let problem go with out doing anything. bout a year later had to have a catalytic converter replaced. do not ignore engine lights. cost way more down the road
Been having the same problem with the thermostat since I got the truck in 2010. Replaced 3 or 4 times already and have to replace again!
ought car used. When arrived home check engine light on. Check code- thermostat. replaced. no light or code
