Question Asked: Cracked and crystallized brake pads
September 21, 2010, 08:43 PM
I recently had the brake pads replaced at a local shop. The manager said that the inside pads on each rotor were cracked / crystallized due to high temperature. He said that all four callipers were failing by not always releasing from the rotors fully. I find this odd because the rotors were in good shape and did not require resurfacing. Is this a case that all four callipers are bad, or is this the result of old or cheap pads previously installed or something else? I purchased the vehicle used 6 months ago so I don't know the service history. The vehicle currently has 102,000 miles on it. The brakes always worked okay and only recently started squeeking before I had the pads changed.
