When the oil pressure sensor fails, the signal that it sends to the engine's computer will be inaccurate, causing the engine's computer to behave as through the oil pressure is too high or too low. This may cause the check engine light or oil pressure warning light to illuminate on the instrument cluster. Also, the engine may be placed in limp mode for engine protection.
