Engine won't start

I would check to make sure that you have good spark. Use a test plug with a plug wire and see if you have good 'snapping' yellow-blue spark. Be sure to ground the plug so you don't shock your self, use one of the plugs you just replaced. If no spark, then that will cause your engine not to run and also allow fuel to eventually flood your engine and cause the 'gas' smell.
