engine light goes on and off

You probably have a intermittent problem, it will show up as a soft code. This means it hasn't set itself on the PCM as a hard code yet. Take it to a local Auto Parts store and ask them to scan it for you. They will do this free! the code number they give you will give you the sensor that needs to be looked at repaired or replaced.
