Coolant in the heating system would indicate leakage from the heater core of your 2000 Chevrolet 3500.
I'm wrenching a fleet of 3500's and they all seem to be having problems leaking coolant, one of which overheated and blew head gasket/intake manifold gasket... i did trace the leak to one of the fittings ... check drivers side of radiator at the second "fitting" ... also a bit of "flour" or similar dry material helps locate source... (find the wet spot). assuming it's relatively clean... GMW
