What is your question?
I came out to my car to go to midnight mass on Dec 24 and when I turned on my car the car was shaking and the check engine light was on. When I opened the hood I saw a broken wire(which was attached to the left side of the engine). It looked like there were 2 wires there but I'm not sure. Also the hood lining/insulation was all ripped up as if something hit it like a whip. What is this wire and can I drive my car to the shop w/o damaging my engine? How much do you think it will cost to repair?

Kind of an odd deal to have a broken wire like that, wondering if you maybe have a rodent involved? This is something that happens fairly often - they love a nice warm engine compartment and love to eat wires. If it is a spark plug wire damaged, you could technically drive it a short distance, but not much...as all the fuel going into that cylinder gets washed out through the cylinder and basically raw through the exhaust...heating up the catalytic converters...causing serious issues. So, drive it to a repair shop only, or have it towed to be cautious. Merry Christmas and good luck.
