Windshield Wipers May Fail Due to Faulty Wiper Motor Control Board on Chevrolet 1500 Pickup

Problem Description and Possible Solution

The windshield wipers may not work intermittently due to a faulty wiper motor control board. Our technicians tell us that lightly taping on the wiper motor when the fault occurs should temporarily get the wipers working again. Some vehicles were recalled for this problem and some were not. You will need to check with your local dealer to find out if a specific vehicle was included.

The wipers will only work on high, and nothing else. Even the window cleaner will not work. When i turn the switch anywhere but on high the wipers will stop wherever they are, even if that is all the way at the top. I have to time it to get them down in the right place.
the wipers either stop when being used or fail to turn on when activated. When in the fail condition you can hear the control box buzzing. If you open the hood and rap on the box with your knuckles the wipers will start again. They have done it about 5 time in the last 14 months. The shop has not been able to have it act up when they have it and if I leave it alone and drive in the probpem is gone when I arrive.
Wipers have mind of their own. Seem possessed at times. Main issues keep running after turning off switch and will stop mid anywhere they want on the windshield, hardly ever in the proper resting position.
Wipers always come on--does not appear to be motor issue. Checked wiper control board and no bad or cold solders present. Wipers work in low and high but briefly in delay mode and then default to low setting. Takes a few minutes for wipers to cycle off and stop mid-cycle in middle of shut off.
I have a 1996 Chevy k1500 5.7 350 v8 Cheyenne 4x4.I have a problem with my wiper motor when I tap on the motor it comes on then stop and know it is not coming on at all.If I replace the board module would that solve my problem?
I have the 2500 series. when I turn on wipers, they buzz and washer does not work either. today they work .someday they will not.
The real problem is that the board is not held tight up against the motor making a poor contact. The problem has been fixed Chevy has a recall that replaces the cover that holds the electronic board up to the motor.
1999 Suburban

Wipers would not turn on - typically when it was raining !
Moving connector would start wipers. At first one wiggle would do it. Then it would only go a couple of cycles before it would stop. Fixed by replaced wiper control board. Dealer told me there was no open recall. From all I have read this is a very common problem !
Had the sane problem on my 1997 silverado pickup. it easily replaced by anyone with average mechanical ability. Just take your time and be gentle when removing the plug.
Sometimes the wipers would engage and other times they would not. During the times that they would not engage I could hear the control box buzzing. I eventually replaced the control board and eliminated the issue. Rather inexpensive fix for a extremely inconvenient problem.
Wipers run sparatically during intermittent operations, varies from very slow to very fast.
What should I look for to find source of problems.
Two trucks I purchased new. 93 and 94 Silverado. Same problem with windshield wiper as described in other reports. I found my problem to be a combination of bad (loose connection) at the plug on the wiring harness that plugs into the wiper motor housing as well as bad solder connections inside the motor housing from the female plug to the wiper motor control board. This problem was apparently on hundreds of thousands of GM products. Bad design as well a cheap materials and manufacturing. Definite safety hazard that GM should address and fix.
Wipers would work intermittantly. Changed the Wiper motor pulse board (part number 88136 from Autozone and Advance Auto parts) and that fixed the problem. You can knock on the board with your knuckles to get it work in a pinch if you haven't changed it yet. This will also confirm that your wiper motor is still good.
intermittent wiper stopped working. only high works all other turn signals/horn/cruise works with wiper switch. new wiper switch installed with no fix to the intermittent issue. then i found this site.... looks to be an issue with the motherboard to wipers under hood & wiper arms that many have issues with. will replace that next
My truck is actually the 2500 but my wiper motor was only working when it wanted I almost got in an accident when it was raining cause my wipers failed, had to pull over wiggle the plug and gorilla tape it just to get home bought new motor from parts store, cost me 64 bucks but so far so good.
