Isuzu Rodeo valvetrain ticking issue due to worn lifter causing camshaft groove, requires camshaft replacement on Isuzu Rodeo

Problem overview

Some Isuzu Rodeo owners report experiencing a ticking noise in the valvetrain, often attributed to varnish buildup in the hydraulic lash adjusters (HLA). This issue can manifest as a noticeable sound from the engine valve train area and may be exacerbated by a worn rocker rod on the intake side, which creates extra clearance that the lifters cannot compensate for. To mitigate this problem, some owners have found success using Mobil 1 synthetic oil to clean varnish deposits and reduce lifter noise. In certain cases, replacing affected rocker arms and rocker shafts may be necessary. However, it is generally advised to first perform an oil and filter change using 0W-30 Mobil 1 synthetic engine oil before considering component replacements. If no issues are detected with push rods, rockers, or valve springs, the noise could be due to a worn lifter roller and/or cam lobe on specific cylinders. Therefore, while camshaft replacement might not always be required, addressing varnish buildup and worn components is crucial for resolving the valvetrain ticking issue in the Isuzu Rodeo.
