Southeast Toyota is recalling certain vehicles because the seat heater element may become damaged as a result of compression of the seat cushion. The damaged element could short causing burning of the seat cushion, increasing the risk of personal injury. Dealers will disconnect seat heaters with copper strand elements and refund the purchase price of the seat heater accessory to correct this concern.
Toyota Venza Recalls
As part of normal operation of the air conditioning system, condensation will accumulate in the condenser housing behind the dashboard. A drain is incorporated so that excess water can drain out. This drain hose can become plugged, the accumulated water can leak onto the airbag control module. This can result in an electrical short in the control module. If this were to occur the airbags could become disabled or deploy unexpectedly. Improper airbag operation increases the risk of personal injury and/or a crash. The power steering assist could also become inoperable resulting in increased steering effort. Dealers will seal the air conditioning condenser housing and install a protective cover on the airbag control module to correct this concern.
Vehicles have a tire size/weight rating label to inform owners of the carrying capacity of their vehicle. These models are being recalled because the incorrect vehicle weight rating is shown on the information label. This could result in vehicle and tire overloading, increasing the risk of tire failure. Owners will be provided an updated vehicle weight label to correct this concern.
Vehicles that have had accessories added to the seats such as seat heaters, seat covers or DVD headrests may not have the occupant sensor system of the passenger seat calibrated properly. This can affect passenger air bag operation in a crash. Dealers will test the sensitivity of the occupant detection sensors and recalibrate them as necessary free of charge to resolve the concern.
During assembly, the electrical contacts of the stop lamp switch may have been contaminated with silicone grease, causing increased electrical resistance in the switch. This could result in: Illumination of warning lamps; a no start condition; the shift lever may not shift from the Park position; and/or inoperative brake lights. Inoperative brake lights would fail to warn other drivers the vehicle is slowing or stopping, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the brake light switch to correct this concern.
50 vehicles may have been assembled with a right front drive axle that may break due to insufficient heat treatment during the manufacturing process. If the drive axle were to break the vehicle would lose power, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the drive shaft and replace those that may not have been manufactured correctly. This recall is expected to begin during mid June 2011.
These vehicle were sold without the required load carrying captivity modification label. Dealers will mail the corrected label to vehicle owners. Owners have the option of requesting that the dealer install the label. This recall is expected to begin on May 27, 2010.
Southeast Toyota is recalling 2005–2011 models for failing to comply with federal safety standards on tire selection and rims. Affected models were sold without the proper load-carrying capacity modification labels, which may cause the driver to overload the vehicle, increasing the chance of a crash. Dealers will mail the correct labels to the customer or install the label free of charge.
Toyota is recalling certain 2008-2010 Highlander, and 2009-2010 Corolla, Venza, and Matrix models because an unsecured or incompatible floor mat may cause the accelerator pedal to get stuck in the wide open position. This can cause high vehicle speeds and may make the vehicle difficult to stop, which can lead to a crash. Toyota will modify or replace the accelerators on the affected vehicles.
