ESP light would not extinguish. Took to dealer, who performed a software program change affecting the anti-lock brake system (ABS) and repaired the problem. Also performed a software upgrade available from Chrysler for the drive train module.

Oops, I posted too soon. When starting the car later the same day, the ESP light is back on and cannot be extinguished . . . back to the Jeep service dealer.
