A malfunctioning knock sensor may lead to engine knocking and could trigger a trouble code like P0325. Furthermore, worn rod bearings, situated between the crankshaft and piston rods, are known to produce knocking sounds. If the check engine light remains illuminated after the crankshaft sensor replacement, it might indicate improper installation or unrelated issues with the fuel or ignition systems. While a faulty crankshaft sensor can indirectly contribute to engine knock by sending inaccurate data to the engine control module, it is not typically a direct cause of knocking sounds. Therefore, if the knocking persists, further investigation into these potential causes is advisable.

The 1988-1992 Toyota Cressida may lose power, fuel economy, and possibly have black smoke from the tail pipe due to a known issue with the knock sensor and/or knock sensor wiring harness. The knock sensor is mounted to the engine, and detects knocking and pinging conditions which may harm the engine. When the knock sensor malfunctions, engine performance is decreased and fuel consumption is increased causing 'rich' running conditions. The check engine light is associated with OBD Trouble Code 52.
