At times, not always, shifting from Park or from Reverse into Drive, there's a clunk, bump, or some such sound, accompanied by a very slight jolt, as if the transmission drops or falls into Drive without shifting smoothly. Also, when accelerating to change lanes at street speeds of 30 to 45 mph, the transmission seems to halt, falter, for about 2 seconds as if it's searching for the right gear to down shift into.
I am having the same issue, with my 2013 Town & Country: harsh/hard shifting and shuddering and even sometimes it does feel as if I am driving over rough strips on the road, and it seem like the transmission don't know which gear it wants to shift into.
right around 60 mph it starts jumping and shuttering. it also does it on hills. if i accelerate fast it starts slowing down. is this a bad transmission? the "check engine" test at auto zone said i need an "Air charge temperature sensor" i'm not sure if that will fix the problem.
Purchased a brand new 2014 T & C. Noticed the problem the first day driving.
Idols rough at stop.
When accelerating then coast, then accelerate it clunks back into gear. Feels like tranny has to "catch up" to RPM of engine.
When backing into a parking stall, there is excessive jerking. Even worse on a hill. Dangerous!
Clunks into gear after cold start.
When on an incline on cruise control, van slows quite a bit before it clunks into a lower gear. You have to shift gears manually to maintain speed.
I took it back the next day and was told "the tranny is in learning mode". After 4 returns of the vehicle, the service manager stated, he took a T & C doing the same thing, stripped down the tranny and found nothing! Stated they're still waiting for a fix from Chrysler. He agreed there is a problem but "no fix"
I've contacted Chrysler and was told they know nothing about this problem (ya right). They are now investigating the problem. I will wait a little more until I take legal action.
When cold, 70% of the time the transmission won't shift out of 2nd (30mph). If I restart engine, it goes away. Dealer reprogrammed the "flash" but still having issues. Unsafe if you have to pull off road to restart all the time. Also, sometimes when I stop, the transmission acts like it doesn't want to downshift. The shudder problem also was taken care of but dealer wanted to attribute it to bad injector wire.
Took it in to the dealer today for this issue. When the car is warmed up, it shifts very heavily in parking lots from P to D or P to R or R to D. Feels as if the transmission is going to drop.
My T&C is shifting hard as well. You can hear and feel the clunk when shifting from R to 1st gear. When I have the econ button active, it feels like I'm driving over ruts on the road and can even feel it on the gas pedal. I figured it's because it up-shifts sooner for better mileage.
Intermittent shifting harshness. Typically at slow speeds (<25 mph)when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. One time, fairly violent shuddering of automatic transmission when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd gear: after fast acceleration to 50 mph, then deceleration, then violent shuddering from 3rd gear to 2nd gear.
When I left the used car dealership the transmission was shuddering a low speeds. Thought it was a transmission issue. Brought it back to the dealer 2 times. The 1st time they sealed a transmission leak and topped it off. 2nd time they reprogrammed the computer. Dealer refused to repair the problem a 3rd time after I reported it was still shuddering. Had to take them to court. Court gave them 30 days to fix it. They replaced the transmission, replaced the computer and problem is worse now. I gave the dealer a 30 demand letter to accept the vehicle back and return all expenses paid since I had the vehicle. 30 days went by, no response from the dealer. I have a court date in March. I filed chapter 93a for up to triple times the damage. By the way I took the vehicle to 3 different repair shops, two of them chevy dealers and none of the shops can determine the cause.
Notice loud clunking noise shift from park to Drive, or park to Reverse. Not every time, but often enough. Also shift to/from toher gears is noticeable and gives the feel of hesitation. This is most often noticed around 37 mph or 30 mph. Noticed without the ECONO button engaged.
Just bought used 2013 T & C.First day, my husband noticed clunkingwhen shifting from park to reverse /reverse to drive. Was at dealership garage for a cosmetic fix and mentioned it.mechanic felt it also. Said it might just be the caror breaking it in. Said if it keeps up'
drop the car off and the y will take it to the dealership to fix. Haven't done that yet but will after reading this page and seeing that it is an issue. I also noticethe jumping feeling when accelerating. Feels like tires are slipping. Love this site!!!!
Transmission shudders when reversing up any type of incline. I am told by the dealership twice that this is normal operation. This is not normal when you can not park the van on a hill
While driving on highway approximately 40 mph the transmission went into neutral (engine was free revving). I pulled over and turned the car off and then restarted it and again placing the transmission shifter into drive, the car started to move forward but would not shift out of what seemed to be 2nd gear. With only a mile of less from home I drive it home and parked it in the driveway. I can check the fluid it has to be done at the dealership with a special tool. However, I don’t see any signs of fluid leaking, the Transmission fluid was changed at 65000 miles as scheduled.
Harsh shifting, thumping sound when put from park to drive. Rebuilt transmission at 23,699 miles!
