Rear Wheel Studs Break

Recall Details

The rear wheel studs may brake and cause the rear wheels to separate from the vehicle. Dealers will replace the rear brake drums free of charge to resolve the concern.

Our Quick Take

The wheel studs that secure the rear wheels to the vehicle may break, resulting in the wheels separating from the vehicle. This would cause an accident.

What Should You Do?

Recalls on your Geo must be performed by a General Motors dealership. General Motors notified known owners of affected vehicles in 1994. If you did not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local General Motors dealerships. They will also check for any other uncompleted recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.

THE REAR BRAKE DRUMS WERE NOT CORRECTLY MACHINED. AS THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN, LOSS OF WHEEL CLAMP LOAD CAN RESULT FROM THIS CONDITION. ONCE CLAMP LOAD IS LOST, ALL TIRE LOADS ARE DIRECTLY TAKEN BY THE WHEEL STUDS. THIS LOADING CAN CAUSE FATIGUE FAILURE OF THE WHEEL STUDS.
