Pedestrians may be unaware of an approaching vehicle if the PWS sounds are muted, increasing the risk of a crash.
The warning sounds to alert pedestrians of the vehicle being near may not sound after a factory reset was performed. This system, called the Pedestrian Warning System (PWS) were inadvertently muted. This can lead to pedestrians being unaware of an approaching vehicle, increasing risk of an accident.
This recall can be resolved via an "Over The Air" (OTA) software update, provided by Tesla, without the need for visiting a service facility. Tesla will notify known owners of affected vehicles in April, 2024. This notice will explain the software update, and provide direction. If you did not receive a notification and would like more information, or would like to see if your vehicle is affected by this recall, you can contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Be sure to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) available for the agent to review. Tesla will also check for any other open recalls you may have missed.
