Air Bag System Deactivates Or Deploys Air Bags Without An Accident

Recall Details

The air bag system may deactivate or may deploy air bags without a crash event due to a defective power supply capacitor of the air bag electronic control unit (ECU). Dealers will install new software and replace the air bag ECU as needed free of charge to resolve the concern.

Our Quick Take

The power supply capacitor of the air bag electronic control unit (ECU) may be defective, resulting in the safety restraint system air bags deactivating and not deploying as needed in an accident, or inadvertent deployment of air bags when they are not needed. Both results create a safety concern that increases risk of occupant injury.
