The engine turning off unexpectedly can increase the risk of a crash. If a crash occurs under this condition, the air bag may not deploy, increasing the risk of injury.
For vehicles that have had the mechanical key ignition switch replaced with new Subaru parts, the new parts may have a ball spring internally break, causing the weight of the key and key ring to allow the switch to turn the engine off unexpectedly. This can lead to an accident and prevent air bags from deploying as needed. Dealers will inspect the ignition with and replace it as needed free of charge to resolve the concern.
Recall repairs on your Subaru must be performed by a Subaru dealership. Subaru will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in May, 2019. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Subaru dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The Subaru recall number is WUF-91.
