If the seat belt is falsely interpreted as being buckled, in the event of a crash, the air bags may not deploy appropriately, increasing the risk of injury.
The seat belt inner buckles may have been replaced with parts that may incorrectly tell the air bag management system that the seat belts are always buckled. This would result in possible improper air bag deployment in an accident. Dealers will test the seat belt assembly to verify that it is properly detecting the belt being unbuckled, and will replace the inner seat belt assembly as needed free of charge to resolve the concern.
Recall repairs on your Toyota must be performed by a Toyota dealership. Toyota will notify known owners of affected vehicles (a timetable of this notification is not available as of the time of this writing). If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Toyota dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The Toyota recall number is J0S.
