Instrumentation Back Lighting Brightness Not Adjustable

Recall Details

The brightness for the instrument cluster cannot be dimmed. Dealers will update the instrument cluster software free of charge to resolve the concern.

Our Quick Take

The brightness back lighting for the instrument panel display is not adjustable. If the display is too bright and cannot be dimmed, it can reduce the drive'rs ability to see at night and cause glare. This would increase the risk of a crash.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Jeep must be performed by a Jeep dealership. Chrysler will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in January, 2018. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Jeep dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The Chrysler recall number is T70.

Summary
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2017-2018 Jeep Compass vehicles. The brightness of the backlighting for the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) cannot be adjusted. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 101, "Controls and Displays."
Consequence
An instrument cluster that is too bright, and cannot be dimmed, can reduce the driver's ability to see at night, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update IPC software, as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin January 10, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T70.
