Battery Sensor Shorts Causing Fire

Recall Details

The battery management sensor may allow water inside of its case, leading to an electrical short and possible fire. Dealers will perform an interim repair using an adhesive applied to the sensor case to temporarily protect the sensor from water intrusion, and later will perform a final repair of replacing the component when parts become available free of charge to resolve the concern.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Honda must be performed by a Honda dealership. Honda will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in July, 2017. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Honda dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. Summary
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Honda Accord vehicles. The case for the battery sensor, part of the battery management system, may allow water to get in, potentially causing an electrical short.
Consequence
An electrical short increases the risk of a fire.
Remedy
Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the sensor, free of charge. Remedy parts are currently unavailable. Dealers will perform an interim remedy of applying adhesive to the case to prevent water intrusion. Interim notices are expected to be mailed on July 31, 2017. Owners will need to have the permanent remedy completed once they receive a second notice. Owners may contact American Honda Customer Support Center at 1-888-234-2138.
