Left Side Halfshaft Separates From Vehicle

Recall Details

For vehicles equipped with a 6 speed transmission, the left front axle shaft may separate from the vehicle. Dealers will inspect the left front shaft for engagement and replace any that are no properly engaged in the transmission free of charge to resolve the concern.

The left front vehicle axle shaft may not be properly seated, for vehicles equipped with a 6-speed transmission. If the axle shaft separates while driving, it could fracture and the vehicle would lose the ability to drive. Additionally, when parked, the vehicle could unexpectedly roll if the parking brake is not utilized.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Jeep must be performed by a Jeep dealership. Chrysler will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in June, 2017. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Jeep dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The Chrysler recall number is T26.

Summary
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2017 Jeep Compass vehicles equipped with a 6-speed transmission. The left front halfshaft may not be properly seated, and, as a result, it may disengage from the transmission and/or break.
Consequence
If the left front halfshaft disengages or breaks, the vehicle will have a loss of drive. Additionally, if the vehicle is parked without using the parking brake, the vehicle may roll, despite being in 'Park.' Either condition may increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Chrysler will notify owners, dealers will inspect the left front halfshaft for engagement and replace any that are not properly engaged in the transmission, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on June 23, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T26.
