If the vehicle is operated with an insufficient amount of oil in the rear differential, the differential may seize and cause a loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash.
The rear differential may leak where it meets the rear axle housing, which could result in the rear differential locking up. Dealers will inspect the rear differential for oil leakage, either tightening the fastening nuts, replacing the rear differential carrier gasket or replacing the rear differential carrier assembly as needed free of charge to resolve the concern.
Recall repairs on your Toyota must be performed by a Toyota dealership. Toyota will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in June, 2017. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Toyota dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.
