Transmission Shifts To Neutral Unexpectedly

Recall Details

Transmission sensor clusters may have insufficient crimps in the transmission wire harness, resulting in the transmission unexpectedly shifting into neutral. Dealers will update the transmission software to prevent the transmission from shifting into neutral due to a faulty crimp free of charge to resolve the concern.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Chrysler, Jeep or Ram must be performed by a Chrysler, Jeep or Ram dealership, respectively. Chrysler will notify known owners of affected vehicles beginning in August, 2016. If you do receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Chrysler, Jeep or Ram dealerships. They will also check for any other uncompleted recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.

Summary
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee and 2015 Chrysler 200, Jeep Renegade and RAM ProMaster vehicles equipped with 9-speed automatic transmissions. The transmission sensor clusters may have insufficient crimps in the transmission wire harness, and as a result, the transmission may unexpectedly shift to neutral.
Consequence
If the vehicle unexpectedly shifts to neutral, there is an increased risk of a crash.
Remedy
Chrysler will notify owners, dealers will update the transmission software to prevent the transmission from shifting into neutral due to a faulty crimp, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin on August 26, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S55.
