Recall 16V236000

Load Carrying Capacity Label Incorrect

Recall Details

The vehicle certification label may indicate the improper load carrying capacity rating for the vehicle. This is because accessories were added to them after the vehicle was built, changing the available load that the vehicle can handle carrying. Vehicle owners will be provided a corrected label and dealers will aid in installing them free of charge to resolve the concern.

Our Quick Take

For vehicles modified by the addition of factory available vehicle accessories by Southeast Toyota Distributors, the load carrying capacity label affixed to the vehicle may not show accurate information. This is because the added accessory weight following installation was not accounted for on the existing label. As a result, the vehicle could be accidentally overloaded which could result in a crash.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Scion or Toyota must be performed by a Scion or Toyota dealership. Toyota will begin notifying known owners of affected vehicles in June, 2016. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Scion or Toyota dealerships. They will also check for any other uncompleted recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.
