Steering Fluid Leaks From Detached Return Hose

Recall Details

The power steering low pressure return hose may leak from a mis-installed clamp. Dealers will inspect the clamp and adjust it as necessary free of charge to resolve the concern.

The power steering low pressure turn line may leak because of a improperly installed clamp that is intended to secure it. This would result in fluid leakage that could catch fire, and eventually loss of pwwer steering assist.

What Should You Do?

Recalls on your Jeep must be performed by a Jeep dealership. Jeep will notify owners of affected vehicles (a time table of this notification is not available as of the time of this writing). If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Jeep dealerships. They will also check for any other uncompleted recalls on your vehicle. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2015 Jeep Compass and Patriot vehicles manufactured January 1, 2015, to May 11, 2015. During assembly, the power steering hose retention clamp may have been installed at an incorrect location, resulting in the detachment of the low pressure return hose.
If the power steering fluid return hose detaches, it would leak fluid and increase the risk of a fire.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the return power steering hose clamp, repositioning the clamp as necessary, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a notification schedule. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R68.
