Tire Placard Missing From Vehicle

Recall Details

The tire placard listing proper tire size, tire inflation pressure, and proper vehicle weight capacity may be missing from the vehicle. Dealers will apply a proper label free of charge to resolve the concern.

Our Quick Take

The tire placard that lists the proper tire size, inflation pressure and load capacity of the vehicle may be missing from the vehicle. This could result in improper tire sizes being installed on the vehicle, compromising vehicle operation and performance, as well as the tires becoming overloaded due to improper inflation pressure. Tire failure may result, which can cause an accident.

What Should You Do?

Recall repairs on your Honda must be performed by a Honda dealership. American Honda notified known owners of affected vehicles beginning in September, 2015. If you did not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Honda or Acura dealerships. They will also check for any other uncompleted recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.

Summary
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2016 HR-V vehicles manufactured January 12, 2015, to May 20, 2015. The affected vehicles may be missing the required tire placard indicating "Tire and Loading Information." These vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 110, "Tire Selection and Rims and Motor Home/Recreation Vehicle Trailer Load Carrying Capacity Information for Motor Vehicles with a GVWR of 4,536 kilograms (10,000 pounds) or less."
Consequence
If the tire placard is missing the driver or owner may not know at what pressure to inflate the tires, resulting in over or under tire inflation which potentially increases the risk of a tire failure and crash.
Remedy
Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicle, and apply a new label, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin September 18, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-310-783-2000. Honda's number for this recall is JT2, or JT4.

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
