Wire Short Deploys Drivers Air Bag Unexpectedly

Recall Details

A wire in the steering wheel harness can rub through against the air bag module retainer spring, causing a short that may deploy the driver's front air bag without warning, unintentionally.  Dealers will inspect, repair and secure the steering wheel wire harness and install protective caps on the air bag retainer spring ends free of charge to resolve the concern.

Our Quick Take

A short circuit in a wiring harness may develop, resulting in the unexpected deployment of the driver's frontal air bag without warning. This would increase risk of a crash, and increase risk of occupant injury.
