Front Passenger Air Bag Stays Active With Child Seat Installed

If the ODS fails to detect that the seat is occupied by a child restraint seat, the front air bag will not be deactivated and, in the event of a crash necessitating front air bag deployment, the air bag deployment could cause increased risk of injury to the occupant in the child restraint seat.

The Occupant Detection System (ODS) of the restraint system may not sense a child seat in the passenger front seat. This may cause the passenger front air bag to remain active when a child seat is installed, which can cause unintended deployment in a collision. Dealers will correct ODS software to resolve this concern.

Hyundai will notify customers of affected vehicles beginning in June 2015. Additionally, you may contact your dealership to see if your vehicle is affected. The dealership may ask for your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), so please have that on hand when you contact them. The dealership will correct the software that controls the passenger air bag system to correct the problem. The Hyundai recall number is 129.
