Electrical & Lights
If the system incorrectly detects an electrical short and turns off the trailer lights while the trailer is being towed at night, there is an increased risk of a crash.
Vehicles fitted with a trailer lighting module are being recalled because the module's software may falsely detect an electrical short in the system, shutting power off to the trailers electrical system. Signals, braking and safety lamps on the trailer may turn off automatically, resulting in unsafe towing conditions. Dealers will replace the trailer light module with a new unit and corrected software, free of charge.
The Southeast Toyota (SET) distributor group will be recalling vehicles fitted with an accessory trailer light module beginning February 23, 2015. As with any trailer, perform a visual inspection of the lights before use. If you don't receive notification in a timely manner and believe you should have, please contact your dealer for further instruction. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call. SET's recall number is SET-15A.
