Electrical & Lights
If the alternator is damaged, the charging system warning lamp in the instrument cluster will illuminate, and the engine will lose power and the vehicle will eventually stop operating while being driven. An unexpected failure of motive power while driving increases the risk of a crash.
An engine oil leak from the front valve cover gasket could result in enough oil leaking onto the alternator to cause its failure. An alternator failure will cause the charging system warning light to illuminate. Driving the vehicle in this condition for a unknown period of time will result in the engine stalling, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect and repair or replace the alternator and front valve cover gasket as necessary to correct this concern.
Hyundai will notifying owners of affected vehicles beginning in September 2014. If you don't receive notification in a timely manner and believe you should have, please contact your Hyundai dealer for further instruction. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call. The Hyundai recall number is 121.
