Brake lines may corrode excessively when salt water splashes behind a gap in the fuel tank protector. This can lead to brake line failure and leakage, and cause the brakes to fail. Dealers will inspect for leaking lines, apply rust proofing wax and replace lines found to be leaking free of charge to resolve the concern.
Subaru notified owners of affected vehicles starting in July 2014. You can check with your dealer to see if your vehicle is involved in this program. It is helpful to have your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on hand when you contact them. The Subaru recall number is WQK-47.
Brakes
Brake line corrosion may result in brake fluid leakage. Fluid leakage may result in longer distances being required to slow or stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
