If the OCS does not detect an adult occupant in the passenger seat, the passenger airbag would be deactivated. Failure of the passenger airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of injury to the passenger.
The airbag system uses a sensor in the front passenger seat to detect if the seat is occupied by an adult. The affected vehicles are being recalled because this sensor, part of the occupant classification system (OCS), may incorrectly identify the passenger seat as empty when it is actually occupied by an adult. When the passenger seat is determined to be empty, the passenger airbag is disabled. Dealers will update the OCS software free of charge to correct this concern.
Recalls on your Nissan or Infiniti must be performed by a Nissan or Infiniti dealership, respectively. Nissan began notifying known owners of affected vehicles beginning in April, 2014. If you did not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Nissan or Infiniti dealerships. They will also check for any other uncompleted recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with.
