Drive Train
If the shift lever is moved out of the Park position without the brake applied, the transmission will either engage a drive gear or Neutral, increasing the risk of a backover or roll away crash.
The shift lock system prevents the shift lever from being moved out of the Park position unless the brake pedal is depressed. These vehicles are being recalled because the shift lock solenoid could fail rendering the shift lock system inoperable. If the shift lever is moved out of the Park position when the brakes are not applied the vehicle could roll unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash. When parts become available, dealers will replace the shift lock solenoid to correct this concern.
Toyota will notify owners beginning in late October 2013. However, parts will not be available at that time. A second notice will be sent when the remedy part is available. If you don't receive notification and you feel you should, please contact your dealer for further instruction. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call.
