Drive Train
As a result of the parking rod detaching, the transmission may not be able to be moved from the "park" position preventing the vehicle from being moved or driven. Furthermore, even with the transmission shifted into the 'park' position, the parking mechanism may not engage, and the vehicle may roll away while in the "park" position, increasing the risk of a crash.
When shifted into the park position, an automatic transmission engages a locking feature which does not allow the vehicle to roll. These vehicles are being recalled because the rod which engages the park mechanism may come loose inside the transmission. As a result the vehicle may not move (stuck in park) or roll unexpectedly when the sifter is in the park position, increasing the risk of a crash. Dealers will replace the automatic transmission on affected vehicles to correct this concern.
Subrau will notify owners of affected models beginning the end of August 2013. If don't receive notification and you feel you should, please contact your dealer for further instruction. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call. The Subaru recall number is WQJ-46.
