The Driver's Front Air Bag may not Deploy as Expected

In the event of a crash necessitating airbag deployment, a broken electrical circuit in the airbag clockspring wiring assembly can lead to non-deployment of the driver-side frontal airbag and will not be able to properly protect the driver, increasing the risk of injuries.

The clockspring is a coil of wire located behind the steering wheel, it allows the steering wheel to turn and still maintain the electrical connection between the steering column and the rotating steering wheel. Certain right hand drive models are being recalled because the circuit inside the clockspring could break. This could result in illumination of the airbag warning light and/or no-deployment of the driver's front airbag in the event of a crash. Dealers will replace the clockspring and add a steering wheel dust shield to correct this concern.

Chrysler will begin notifying owners of affected vehicles during May 2013. If your airbag warning light remains illuminated, or you don't receive notification and you feel you should have please contact your dealer.
