How long does a recall take to fix?

Do you need a warranty for a recall?

Engine

The Engine May Start Unexpectedly

The engine may inadvertently start and run for up to fifteen minutes. The engine may continue to start and stop until the fob battery is depleted, or until the vehicle runs out of fuel. If the vehicle is parked in an enclosed area, there is a risk of carbon monoxide build-up which may cause headaches, dizziness or, in extreme cases, unconsciousness and/or asphyxiation.

On 2010-2013 Subaru models equipped with an automatic transmission and Audiovox accessory remote start system, if the key fob is dropped it may begin randomly transmitting a request to start the engine, causing the engine to unexpectedly start and run for up to 15 minutes. The engine may continue to start and stop until the battery in the fob goes dead or until the vehicle runs out of fuel. If the vehicle is parked in an enclosed area, there is a risk of carbon monoxide build-up which may cause asphyxiation. Original equipment keyless entry fobs integrated on the vehicle key are not affected. Dealers will replace the affected key fobs to correct this concern.

Customer notification will begin toward the end of April 2013. If you have an affected vehicle, Subaru will notify you. If you believe your car is affected or experience problems with the remote start system, you should contact your Subaru dealer. They may ask for your vehicle identification number (VIN), so please have it handy when you call. The Subaru recall number is WQF-42.

Has the dealership received the parts for the repair yet? Do dealership technicians have training to conduct the specific repair? How many recalled cars can the dealer repair each day (while also doing their daily service business)?

Recalls are unrelated to your warranty coverage. Any recalls that are issued for safety-related items on your vehicle will be repaired by the vehicle manufacturer at no cost to you. Even if your vehicle's warranty has expired and you are not the original owner of the vehicle, you are still eligible to have any open safety recalls on your vehicle repaired.
