Removal of the ignition key when the gear selector of a vehicle with an automatic transmission has not been shifted to the park position can allow the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash.
These vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission have a system that prevents the ignition key from being removed from the ignition lock unless the transmission is in the park position. A part in this system can wear and allow the key to be removed when the transmission is not in park. When the transmission is not in park, the vehicle may roll unexpectedly increasing the risk of a crash. To address this concern, dealers will install an updated shift interlock lever and if necessary, replace the ignition switch.
Honda will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning February 7, 2013. If you are experiencing problems with the ignition lock or transmission shifter, or you don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. It’s helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call. The Honda /Acura recall numbers are S73 & S74.
