Severe Rust May Develop on Certain Rear Suspension Mounting Brackets

EXCESSIVE CORROSION MAY RESULT IN THE LEFT OR RIGHT REAR SUSPENSION LOWER LINK BRACKET BECOMING DETACHED FROM THE FRAME, WHICH CAN AFFECT VEHICLE HANDLING AND INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.

12V-306 Recall Summary

The affected vehicles may experience excessive corrosion in the area of the forward mounting bracket for the left and right rear suspension lower link. The lower link bracket can become detached from the frame, which can affect vehicle handling and increase the risk of a crash. Dealers will inspect the affected area. If little or nor corrosion is found, the area will be treated with an anti-corrosive compound. For vehicles in which corrosion has damaged the rear suspension lower link bracket, a reinforcement bracket will be installed. In the rare event the corrosion is so severe that the reinforcement bracket remedy would not be appropriate, Isuzu will offer to repurchase the vehicle for an amount based on the Kelly Blue Book "private party price." All inspections and remedies will be provided free of charge for vehicles that are ten years old or less. For vehicles older than ten years, Isuzu will offer a free remedy, but only if the vehicle is presented to an Isuzu dealer within 12 months of when owner notifications were issued.

Isuzu will notify owners of affected vehicles during July, 2012. Other than visible rust in the affected, there are no symptoms related to this recall. Your vehicle is affected by a recall if the manufacturer or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has decided that a problem with your car makes it a safety risk or fails to meet safety standards. When this happens, the vehicle manufacturer is obligated to fix your vehicle.

How long it takes to fix a recall depends on many different factors:

How many vehicles are affected by the recall? How complex is the problem to fix? How many different parts are involved in the repair? Are the repair parts available? Has the dealership received the parts for the repair yet? Do dealership technicians have training to conduct the specific repair? How many recalled cars can the dealer repair each day (while also doing their daily service business)?

Recalls are unrelated to your warranty coverage. Any recalls that are issued for safety-related items on your vehicle will be repaired by the vehicle manufacturer at no cost to you. Even if your vehicle's warranty has expired and you are not the original owner of the vehicle, you are still eligible to have any open safety recalls on your vehicle repaired.
