IF THE CLOCK SPRING DEVELOPS HIGH RESISTANCE, IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, THE DRIVERS AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PROPERLY PROTECT THE DRIVER, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURIES.
The clock spring electrical assembly in the steering column may become damaged over time, resulting in high resistance in the driver's airbag electrical circuit. This could cause illumination of the airbag warning light and/or the driver's airbag may not deploy as designed. Failure of the airbag to properly deploy increases the risk of injury to the driver in the event of a crash. Dealers will replace the clock spring contact assembly as necessary to correct this concern. The Kia recall number is SC094.
Kia will notify owners of affected vehicles during March 2012. Some vehicles may illuminate the airbag warning light and others may not. If the airbag warning light is illuminated, or you don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. It's helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) when you call.
