Some six speed manual transmissions may have been manufactured with a certain lubrication hole not drilled. Lack of lubrication can result in an abnormal noise from the transmission. If this noise were to be ignored, the transmission could fail completely. Engine power available to the drive wheels would be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash.
You must contact and visit a Subaru dealership to perform recall repairs on your Subaru vehicle. The schedule for Subaru to contact known owners of affected vehicles is during July, 2010. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Subaru dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The Subaru recall designation is WVS-29.

IF THE TRANSMISSION GEARS ARE NOT PROPERLY LUBRICATED, A GROANING SOUND MAY BEGIN TO DEVELOP ALERTING THE DRIVER OF A PROBLEM. IF THE SOUND IS IGNORED AND NO ACTION IS TAKEN, THE GEARS WILL EVENTUALLY BREAK AND THIS CONDITION WILL LEAD TO VEHICLE POWER LOSS, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A CRASH.
