Suspension & Steering
THE SCREW MAY EVENTUALLY COME OUT OF THE STEERING GEAR COVER. IF LARGE STEERING INPUTS ARE MADE WITH THE COVER SCREW MISSING THE PINION SHAFT MAY COME OUT OF THE STEERING GEAR RESULTING IN A COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The steering gear housing retainer screw could come loose and allow a loss of steering control in extreme circumstances. Dealers will re-secure the fastener and install a cover plate to prevent the screw from coming out again. This recall began during November 2009.
We at RepairPal have designated this a medium priority recall; this would change to high if any problems are noted with steering the vehicle. Please contact your Nissan dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
