MISCLASSIFICATION OF A SMALL STATURE ADULT AS A CHILD IN THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SEAT MAY CAUSE THE RIGHT FRONT AIR BAG TO NOT INFLATE IN AN ACCIDENT THAT MERITS AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT AND MAY RESULT IN INJURY TO THE RIGHT FRONT OCCUPANT.
The front passenger seat sensor, to detect a child seat or adult in the seat, may recognize a small adult as a child seat. If this happens and the front passenger air bag is deactivated, the risk of injury in a crash may be increased. Dealers will verify the Occupant Classification System (OCS) is not working properly. After verification, dealers will remove the front passenger seat cushion and send it to a repair facility. The recall began May 26, 2008. The Hyundai recall number is 083.
We at RepairPal have designated this a high priority recall; the air bag may not deploy as designed. Please contact your Hyundai dealer. They will check to see if your specific vehicle is affected and advise you on what to do next. Always have your vehicle identification number (VIN) handy when you call.
