THE POSSIBILITY OF MISCLASSIFICATION OF CERTAIN SMALL CHILDREN AS AN ADULT MAY ALLOW THE RIGHT FRONT AIRBAG TO DEPLOY IN A FRONTAL COLLISION CRASH OR THE SIDE IMPACT AIRBAG TO DEPLOY IN A SIDE COLLISION CRASH; SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH COULD OCCUR.
The vehicle is equipped with an occupant classification system (OCS) that is present to detect the presence of a child sitting in the passenger front seat, so as to turn the passenger frontal air bag off when a child is seated there. This system may malfunction depending on the positioning of the child located on the passenger front seat, and as a result may not turn the air bag off. This increases the risk of injury should the air bag deploy with a child sitting in the seat.
You must contact and visit a Hyundai dealership to perform recall repairs on your Hyundai vehicle. The schedule for Hyundai to initially contact known owners of affected vehicles was during December, 2005. If you do not receive a notification, but wish to check to see if your vehicle is included, please contact one of your local Hyundai dealerships. They will also check for any other incomplete recalls on your vehicle. For best results, be prepared to provide your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to the service department consultant you speak with. The Hyundai recall designation is 074.
