Electrical & Lights
IF THIS HAPPENS, THE CHARGER WARNING AND BRAKE WARNING LAMPS WILL IMMEDIATELY COME ON AND THE BATTERY WILL BEGIN TO DISCHARGE. AFTER A SHORT TIME, THE ENGINE WILL GO INTO A "FALL SAFE" CONDITION WHICH WILL LIMIT VEHICLE SPEED. THE ENGINE WILL STOP RUNNING WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
The alternator could fail due to a broken wire inside. If this occurs, the charging system warning light will illuminate and the battery will begin to discharge. If driven in this condition, after a short time the engine will go into a "fail safe" condition, which will limit vehicle speed. Continued operation will cause the engine to stop running, which could result in a crash. Dealers will inspect and replace the alternator as required with a revised design.
Nissan will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning August 1, 2005. If your charging system warning light is on and/or the battery is going dead, or you don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. It's helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) when you call.
