IF THE GEAR DISPLAYED IS DIFFERENT FROM THE GEAR ENGAGED, THIS COULD RESULT IN UNEXPECTED VEHICLE MOVEMENT AND A CRASH.
The attaching transmission gear selector shaft to the control valve lever may not have been adequately tightened. This could result in the transmission not actually being in the gear indicated by the selector lever. In addition, the transmission display in the instrument panel may be incorrect. If the gear displayed is different from the gear engaged, this could result in unexpected vehicle movement and a crash. Dealers will check the affected nut in the transmission shift lever linkage and tighten if as necessary. The Nissan recall number is R3009.
Nissian will notify owners of affected vehicles beginning April 15, 2003. If you are experiencing problems with the transmission shifter, or you don't receive notification and you feel you should have, please contact your dealer. It's helpful to have your vehicle identification number (VIN) when you call.
